Part Finder privacy policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
Part Finder is a browser extension that finds the next part, and the other parts, of a YouTube series you are watching. This policy describes what it handles and where that data goes.
Summary
- Part Finder has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- What you save (links, decisions, playlists, settings, your own API key) stays in your browser.
- To search, Part Finder asks YouTube for public information about videos and channels: either directly with your own YouTube API key, or through the free Part Finder server, which forwards the same requests with the developer's key.
YouTube API Services
Part Finder uses YouTube API Services to read public information about videos, channels and playlists. By using Part Finder you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Part Finder only reads public data. It never signs in to your Google or YouTube account and cannot see your watch history, subscriptions or private videos.
Data stored in your browser
Kept with the browser's extension storage, on your device only:
| Data | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Public details of videos and channels Part Finder looked up (titles, descriptions, upload dates, thumbnails links) | Speeds up repeat searches and keeps search costs down | Reused for at most 30 days, then refreshed or deleted |
| The YouTube videos you open while the extension is installed, with small visual fingerprints of a few frames (16 × 16 pixel summaries, not images) | Recognises a continuation by how it looks when titles don't say "Part 2" | At most 30 days, with the cached video details (about 3 MB in total) |
| Text read from video thumbnails (for example "Part 3") | Finds part numbers that are only in the thumbnail | With the cached video details |
| Links you confirmed or rejected, and your personal playlists | Remembers your choices | Until you delete them |
| Settings (theme, "find next parts while I watch", "use only my key") | Your preferences | Until you change them |
| Your own YouTube API key, if you add one | Searches with your own daily allowance | Until you remove it |
| A random install ID | Counts the free server's daily allowance for this browser | Until you uninstall |
Your API key is only ever sent to Google's API server (www.googleapis.com). It is never sent to the Part Finder server. YouTube pages and other extensions cannot read it.
Data sent off your device
When you search (or when "Find next parts while I watch" is turned on), Part Finder requests public information about the relevant video, its channel, the channel's recent uploads and playlists, and some videos' public comments from:
- Google's YouTube Data API, when you use your own key. With your own key, if nothing else finds the next part, Part Finder may also run a YouTube search limited to that channel (the series name and the next part number), or
- the Part Finder server (part-finder-shared.eric-c-chen-cs.workers.dev, hosted on Cloudflare), when you use the free shared searches.
The Part Finder server receives:
- the YouTube request itself (for example a video ID, channel ID or playlist ID), which shows which videos and channels were looked up;
- the random install ID, used only to count this browser's daily allowance;
- your network (IP) address, as with any web request. The server does not store it; it keeps only a one-way daily hash to enforce a per-network daily limit.
The server keeps:
- daily usage counters per install ID and per hashed network address, deleted after the day ends (midnight Pacific time);
- YouTube's public answers for up to one day, shared between users so repeat lookups cost nothing. These cached answers are not linked to your install ID or network address.
Cloudflare, which hosts the server, processes requests as described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Part Finder does not sell data, share it with advertisers or data brokers, or use it for anything other than finding video parts.
Your controls
- Clear cached video info (popup → Settings) deletes cached video details and search results.
- Clear saved links (popup → Settings) deletes your confirmed and rejected links.
- Personal playlists can be deleted on the playlists page.
- Remove key deletes your API key from the browser.
- Uninstalling Part Finder deletes everything it stored in your browser. Server counters expire on their own within a day.
Reporting a wrong result
"Wrong result? Tell us" opens your own email app with the video links filled in. Nothing is sent unless you send that email.
Children
Part Finder is a general-audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If these practices change, this page will be updated with a new date, and significant changes will be noted in the extension's release notes.
